According to a report posted on Bloomberg, some podcast guest are paying upwards of $50,000 to be on “popular” shows.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t need exposure that bad. On one hand, you’re exposed to a larger audience sure, but I’ll take the stairs for free, rather than take the escalator for that price tag. Let’s be clear, some people are paying 50 racks for an interview! If you grow your name big enough, I believe bigger podcast will find you. I could be wrong.
Now with that said, the devils advocate in me does understand the business model for both sides. AS far as the interviewer, why wouldn’t you accept a large sum for an interview. You could be doing worse things for money. As for the interviewee, your return on investment could be a game changer if you’re interesting enough.
In all seriousness if you want to pay me when to interview you, I won’t stop you, and I’m not hard to find. But as far as paying any amount just to sit down and have a conversation with someone, I can’t see it. Maybe someone out there can help me see the light.
Depending on the business or industry, I think the people who could really catapult you to the top would not be interested in having you pay to be interviewed. What does that say about their Brand? However, I do understand the marketing aspects of the world we live in today. People will gladly sell their dignity for acceptance. In an age of “followers and likes” it seems everything is for sale….even integrity. Hey, to each his or her own. Thanx Dave.

Thanx Marie! People will definitely sell their dignity for some likes. But will disappear after their 5 mins of instafame is gone. Only to struggle for more recognition later.
